Retrofit of Cross Beam 18 Feet

February 23, 2010

So this looks like a cross beam mounted onto an old plasma gantry. And it is. But what makes this interesting, is we were sent the old plasma cross beam with supports welded onto the frame. We then used the FARO laser tracker to map the actual positions of the supports and holes in 3D space. This was then put into SOLIDWORKS and the standard WARDJet cross beam was modified so the new cross beam matched the support sent to us.

The beam was fabricated, heat stress relieved, machined, fitted as you see on the photos, and will now go to powder coating, back to have the linear rails fitted and final fabrication. When we placed it into position today, it fitted perfectly.
